As the nation is preparing to send copies of the preliminary draft of the constitution to all its 240 electoral constituencies all over Nepal to get feedback from the people, Federation of National Christian organized national seminar on secularism in new constitution and full religious freedom. Chief Guest of the seminar, Ex Nepal PM and current prominent leader of Nepal Communist Party (United Marxist and Leninist), Madhav Kumar Nepal addressed to Christian enthusiasts saying ‘We all need to believe that we all are Nepalese no matter what religious background we are from. Let all respect each other and discrimination on basis of belief will not be tolerated in Nepal any more. We all know that word Hindu has never been written in any edition of constitution in the past. Nation should be above religion and should treat all religion equally.’ Indirectly, Ex-PM Mr. Nepal, told the audience that they were free to choose what they believe. Mr. Nepal further told, ‘We hear people demand Hinduism but that’s not what going to happen. Presence and history of Christians in Nepal have been here ever since 700 years.’ Mr. Nepal further exclaimed the audience that, ‘There are people who do not wants to see this new constitution come into force, putting all effort to failure and religious freedom to uncertain dilemma’ pointing probably to RPP’s campaign.  Before he left, Mr. Nepal told around 900 Christians who were gathered at Agembar party premises, ‘We believe that all your rights will be heard,’ and there was a big applause.

Nepali Congress leader Arjun Narsingh KC, showed the solidarity to Christians, saying, ‘We believe that you would come and submit your demand on right way in new constitution. I will try to help your demand. Mr. KC wondered on government slothful respond on fulfilling 6 points agreement between federation and government to provide various needs of Christian communities in Nepal, specially the problem of graveyard for Christians in Kathmandu city. ‘I urge that nation should not stand or side with any particular religion. I think that we must not stop religious freedom and I hope to see the 6 point pact will come closer to fulfillment.

Previously, before the program started, Dhan Bahadur Thapa, aka Amen Thapa, a member of the federation, who was ushering the guests, quickly told us that this meeting is needed to tell the public that we want to be sure of our (Christian) right and privileges in upcoming new Constitution.

Unified Communist Party leader Mr. Ram Karki shared his valuable thoughts to Nepali Christian community at the first sight in the stage. Mr. Karki said, ‘we want to see 5 million Christians in Nepal, 10 million Christians in Nepal and we want to see Christian live a sacrificial life like Jesus. Religion is man’s own choice, it’s not nation’s choice. You chose what you like, bring your demand on legal way.’

Seminar was inaugurated by the prayer of Dr. Bishop Narayan Sharma from GFA and Pastor Isu Jung Karki and Rev. Sundar Thapa welcomed all distingueshed leaders in the stage. Rev. Isu Jung Karki, Dr. K B Rokaya from Human Rights, Father Silas Bogati from Catholic Church, Pastor Raju Sundas, Rev. Adam Tuladhar, Rev. Jagat Pradhan and C B Gahatraj were presented in the meeting.
